Easy Screen Door Welcome Signs

Do you have one of those screen doors which has the solid metal bottom? If so, there are some fabulous signs you can make to welcome your guests, and the signs can be easily changed any time you wish. The signs are created from magnetic sheeting which allows you to print on them or decorate them with picture cutouts.

Magnetic sheeting is sold by the sheet, or by the roll, at most craft stores. A roll of the sheeting is just what you need to create signs for your screen door. This type of sheeting is great for cutting out pictures from calendars or magazines and attaching them to the magnet. The magnetic sheeting has a peel-away adhesive strip that makes it easy to stick any picture to it.

A different kind of magnetic sheeting is sold at stores that provide computer accessories. Printable magnetic sheeting allows you to pull up an image, place it in your printing program, and print it out onto the sheet of magnet. This method allows you more options for the picture you display to your guests. When working with the adhesive magnetic sheeting you have many options for creating the design. Choose a piece of decorative paper or cloth and use stickers to spell out "Welcome". Laminate the sticker paper design and attach it to the adhesive magnet. Or, cut your own lettering from scrapbook paper and add additional images. Using scrapbook paper allows you to find many images that would otherwise be difficult to find. Scrapbook paper is found in hundreds of designs and are sold by the sheet. Cut images of lighthouses, flowers, pets and more, to use for the welcome sign design. Similarly, fabric is sold featuring many themes, and can be used to make the welcome sign. Cut out cartoon characters, Native American images, or even pets. The cloth images can easily be affixed to the adhesive magnet and used to make the finished design. Your screen door picture doesnt necessarily have to say "Welcome". It can say "Merry Christmas", "Happy Birthday" or can even be made to sport the familys last name. Using the magnetic sheeting you can easily create many different designs that are interchangeable in seconds. Make one for each holiday, graduations, anniversaries, or just everyday greetings. You can laminate the picture and stick it directly to the magnetic sheeting or you can laminate a different way. Instead of laminating both sides of the picture just make the paper picture an inch smaller, on each side, than the sheeting. Position the picture on the adhesive then cut one piece of clear plastic - or laminate - to cover the picture. The exposed adhesive will grip the laminate around the perimeter. Whenever you want to give a greeting to visitors just stick the magnetic sign on the screen door. The metal piece across the bottom of the screen door will be the display area for your various signs. When people walk up to the door they can easily see the "Welcome" or other sign youve made. The arrangements you make dont necessarily have to be signs. You can just create beautiful pictures and stick them to the magnetic sheeting. The picture doesnt have to offer a welcome or a saying. Change the picture according to the season or according to your mood. Creating the welcome signs and other door pictures is a lot of fun. Kids will really enjoy helping with stickers and other embellishments. The project is inexpensive and unique. All your visitors will comment on the beautiful pictures, and the next thing you know, theyll be making their own!
